About Rafael Santos, Jr.

"It is with great pride and deep respect that I nominate Rafael Santos, Jr. of the Hampshire County Sheriff's Office as a National Life Do Good Hero," said Robert Marchewka of Rise North Capital.

As an employment coordinator in the Work Release and Reentry Program, Mr. Santos plays a critical role in advancing public safety through rehabilitation, job readiness, and community reintegration. His efforts help incarcerated individuals transition successfully back into society, thereby contributing to safer and stronger communities. But what truly sets Mr. Santos apart is how far he goes beyond his official duties to serve and uplift those around him.

Mr. Santos is a tireless mentor and public servant whose reach extends far beyond the correctional system. A proud Holyoke native and former college football player, he now gives back to his hometown by serving as an assistant football coach at his alma mater, Holyoke High School. Through this role, he models discipline, accountability, and perseverance for young athletes—many of whom look up to him as both a coach and a life mentor.

His commitment to youth development continues through his active involvement with Train 42, a local leadership and athletic training organization dedicated to empowering Holyoke's youth. Whether it's helping students set goals, sharpen their athletic skills, or navigate the pressures of growing up, Mr. Santos shows up consistently with encouragement, empathy, and experience.

Mr. Santos also remains deeply engaged with the UMass Football Mentoring Program, where he supports current student-athletes in both their academic and personal growth. Additionally, he has maintained a strong presence in the Holyoke Safe Neighborhood Initiative over the years, further demonstrating his dedication to community safety and well-being.

All of these efforts reflect a man who leads by example. Mr. Santos doesn't just coordinate work release logistics—he restores dignity. He doesn't just coach football—he builds futures. He doesn't just do his job—he lives his mission: to serve, to guide, and to give back.

"For his extraordinary commitment to community service, youth empowerment, and second chances—both within and far beyond his role in public safety—I strongly recommend Rafael Santos, Jr. as a National Life Do Good Hero," said Marchewka.
