Officer De Los Santos has served as a Morristown Police Officer for an impressive 23 years, demonstrating unwavering commitment and compassion throughout his tenure. October 1st, 2023, marked 30 years of service in the pension system for the State of New Jersey, a testament to his enduring dedication to public service.
Officer De Los Santos’ journey in law enforcement began when he graduated from the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy in 2001. Even before his formal training, he was already an integral part of the Department for approximately seven years, serving as a volunteer translator and a member of the Crisis Response Team (CRT), where he assisted victims of Domestic Violence. Notably, he was the only Hispanic officer during the first decade of his career, highlighting his trailblazing spirit and commitment to diversity and inclusion within the force.
Throughout his career, Officer De Los Santos has been called upon to assist numerous agencies within Morris County and beyond with English-Spanish/Spanish-English translations, showcasing his linguistic proficiency and willingness to go above and beyond to aid others.
Beyond his duties as a police officer, Officer De Los Santos has also dedicated himself to helping those struggling with addiction as a non-alcoholic member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 15 years. Leveraging his experience as a police officer, he volunteers his time to support members of different groups across New Jersey and beyond, delivering countless talks during anniversary celebrations for AA groups with audiences ranging from 150 to 1,000 people.
His commitment to community extends beyond his professional life, as well. He is an active member of Saint Margaret’s Church, volunteering his time to ensure the security of religious events and serving on the Church’s Carnival Committee as the head of security. Additionally, in 1997, he co-led the first Hispanic Youth group at the church, known as Ten-Plus, which provided support and guidance to young men and women in the community for years.
“Officer Yeison De Los Santos embodies the spirit of the National Life Do Good Heroes Award through his selfless service, dedication to diversity and inclusion, and tireless efforts to support and uplift his community. The love Yeison radiates for other people is contagious, and we couldn't be more thankful to have him as a part of our life,” said Morrell and Zebrowski.
