About Harold Orin Sprague III

Harold Sprague III was nominated by Maria Deibert of Squid Financial LLC, a division of Five Rings Financial.

Mr. Sprague III is a full-time firefighter/paramedic for Newport News Shipyard. He is a U.S. Navy veteran, devoted husband, and dad/stepdad to five children in Suffolk, Virginia. He is also a part-time firefighter/paramedic for Chesapeake, Virginia.

Newport News  Shipyard is a vital shipyard to our country as it repairs, refuels, and builds the nuclear carriers for the U.S. Navy.  Mr. Sprague is a U. S. Navy veteran and understands every shipyard worker is crucial to the mission to get those great vessels sea worthy safely.  Mostly, he cares about the people that are a part of our country’s mission.

Mr. Sprague proactively generated the protocols and training between the firefighter/paramedics of Newport News Shipyard and the Sentara Nightingale medical helicopter service for extracting and transporting critically injured NNS employees. The Nightingale provides a huge advantage in serious trauma/burn calls, as they can get to the correct facility faster than ground transport. This can mean the difference between life and death in very critical calls.

The training was the first of its kind for Newport News Shipyard. Firefighters learned how to communicate with pilots and the correct way to set up a landing zone for the air ambulance. After the landing zones were inspected, Nightingale was contacted and landed in the North Yard. Firefighters then learned more about Nightingale’s capabilities and the extra resources it brings to the scene in an emergency.

Mr. Sprague is to be commended for his foresight and proactive stance to save lives.
