Captain Decker has been involved with the fire service since 1993. He started as a volunteer in Roanoke County and later was hired with the Roanoke Fire-EMS Department on July 6th, 1999. Captain Decker rose through the ranks from Firefighter/EMT, to Lieutenant, and now, Captain.
Captain Decker has volunteered with Callaway VFD (Volunteer Fire Department) since 2002 and worked part-time with the Franklin County Department of Public Safety since 2010. Captain Decker has been a member and Team Leader for the Special Operations Team in Franklin County. In Roanoke County, he has been a member of the Technical Rescue Team, Swift Water Rescue Team, and Hazardous Materials Team.
On July 3rd and 10th of 2013, Captain Decker participated in the rescue of more than 50 civilians during flash flooding events that occered in the city of Roanoke. On June 6th, 2014, Captain Decker was awarded the Higgins-Langley Swift Water Rescue Incident Award. Captain Decker was also awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation from the Roanoke Fire-EMS Department for his actions.
Outside of his role, Captain Decker supports various church programs, local youth programs, and international mission trips.
