Goliad County Sheriff's Office
Goliad, TX
Robin Lynn Allen was nominated by Brandon Guerrero of Vantage Financial Alliance.
Officer Allen responded to a medical call for a male who was unconscious and not breathing. Upon her arrival, Officer Allen found an unconscious, unresponsive male laying in the front yard of a residence. EMS had been dispatched, but they were not first on the scene. She began to provide immediate assessment and first aid. Officer Allen checked to see if the patient had a pulse and was breathing. She determined that the patient had a pulse, but they were not breathing. Officer Allen performed a sternal rub to elicit a response from the patient with no response. She noticed that the male had pinpoint pupils, which was indicative of an opiate overdose.
Officer Allen then made the split-second, life-saving decision to deploy and administer her personal Narcan device issued to her for her own use. The male subject had no response after the first dose of Narcan. Officer Allen then administered the last of her Narcan, a second dose. EMS had finally arrived and took over medical care following the second dose of Narcan. The EMS supervisor on scene advised that if it weren’t for Officer Allen and the rapid deployment of her Narcan, the patient would not have made it. The Assistant Director of Colorado County EMS stated that Officer Allen’s actions were instrumental in saving the patient’s life. Officer Allen was awarded the “Life-Saving Award” by Chief Jameson of Weimar Police Department and the Director and Assistant Director of Colorado County EMS, Michael Furrh and Marti Kalmbach.
Outside of her role, Officer Allen supports local nonprofit organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Weimar.
