Sergeant Pierre King
York Police Department
York, SC
Sergeant Pierre King was nominated by Joey Clinton of ValuTeachers.
Sergeant King is the School Resource Officer at York Comprehensive High School and Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center in York, South Carolina. Sergeant King is dedicated to the betterment of the community, of which he is a proud product. In addition to the daily mentoring he does during the school day and at extracurricular events where he serves as a school resource officer, Sergeant King gives back after hours, as well.
Several years ago, he created the Be The King of Change Organization. In his own words, "Be the King of Change is a movement that strives for unity between law enforcement and the community. I want to inspire change and promote positive relationships through crucial conversations about race, social issues, and the various obstacles that impose on the identities of the institutions designed to serve and protect the community at large."
In his work with Be The King of Change, Sergeant King frequently organizes youth field trips and service opportunities for students to gain life experience outside of what they know in their community. In addition, he regularly speaks to youth and community organizations to motivate, inspire, and bridge the gap between community and law enforcement.
His work doesn't stop there, however. His heart for service also led him to initiate his school's Shop with a Cop event that takes place each year for families in need.
