About Julianna C. Hill

Sgt. Hill serves the Mathews County Sheriff's Office and is a school resource officer for Mathews County Public Schools. She also spearheads the Mathews County TRIAD program for the senior citizens in her community. TRIAD is a cooperative effort between first responders and senior organizations, focused on reducing crimes against seniors. This organization raises awareness of scams and fraud targeting seniors and educates them on local and state resources available in their communities.

Sgt. Hill is actively involved in monthly meetings and in planning safety events for senior citizens. She's known for developing clever ways to keep seniors in her community safe.

In April of 2026, a local senior citizen who has dementia wandered away from his home. Sgt. Hill quickly located him about a half mile from his home in a dense, wooded ravine and helped get him back to his family unharmed. Ultimately, she saved his life.

Sgt. Hill also coordinates her department's National Night Event every year, bringing the whole community together in one place. The event is funded through donations, making it entirely free for families in her community. Citizens can enjoy food, games, fellowship, and music all in a fun and safe environment. This event helps community members form relationships with deputies and see them as people behind the badge they wear each day. Since National Night Out began, attendance has doubled each year. Sgt. Hill is already planning the next event for August 2026, and at least 2,500-3,000 citizens are expected to attend.

"Sgt. Hill goes above and beyond her position requirements and is a huge asset to our office and community. The students in our school hold the utmost respect for her, and you can see it regularly worn on Sgt. Hill's face that she truly cares for every one of our students," said Sheriff April Edwards.
